The Reception children are taught following their purpose designed Foundation Stage curriculum. This is based largely on learning through play and the children follow topics that are designed to appeal to their curiosity and inspire them to explore the world around them. They learn synthetic phonics based on 'Read, Write Inc.' and quickly acquire skills to develop both reading and writing. The school does not depend on any one scheme of reading books but combines a whole variety of books to help the children progress as quickly as possible.
Topics such as 'All about Me' enable the children to combine learning in all areas, making meaningful links between children's existing knowledge and new learning.
In Year 1 the children build on the knowledge and skills they have learned in their first year at school. Being in the same class for two years means the staff know the children really well and this enables them to make seemless progress from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1.
